I fondly remember this show from my childhood, and would very much like to see it again.
Does anyone know if it's ever likely to be released on DVD?

No Chance of this getting a proper Dvd release. It was too obscure.
        It wouldn't be commercially viable.

Such a shame I truly enjoyed this show when I was a kid in the 70s!

Too obscure? I have seen things put on DVD that were not done for VHS and i only knew from being a 'night owl' TV viewer back when stations showed all this stuff. If somebody thinks some of that stuff is commercially viable then this series is a shoe in.

It's very unlikely it will ever get to DVD. I put together a very nice set of the show on dvd. I originally bought several sets from various sources and they all sucked. The intros and end credits were cut, the sound was bad and all the usual stuff people do to tv shows when recording. I decided to just put my own set together from the Sci Fi airings and cleanly edited out all the commercials. If you want it done right, you just have to do it yourself.
Glen Larson said the budget for each episode was $300,000.

This aired on Sci Fi? I've never seen this since its original airing.

It aired on Sci Fi Channel back when Sci Fi was good, and had "retro" shows such as this and all kinds of "Gee I remember THAT" films and shows. That was back in the early to mid-90's. SHows like this were very cheap to acquire and a joy for some of us to see again. Later,Sci Fi was taken over by Barry Diller, and bought by USA Network and they changed the whole format and dumped the retro stuff, old movies etc and started making their own movies and shows, some of which were awful. Sci Fi aired it as part of their "Great Series" at 9pm weeknights which aired alot of short-lived shows from the 1970s such as this and The Magician, Otherworld and some obscure British shows.
Later, FJ was seen on the now-defunct NOstalgia Channel which did the same thing, showed 1970's shows in a retro format.
It's available on boot DVD from what I have seen-the cover appears to be from some kind of UK DVD release, however the content is quite clearly taken from a variety of sources such as airings on TV.

Glen Larson said the budget for each episode was $300,000.
I don't think Glen Larsen had anything to do with this series.
If he had it would probably get released on DVD.
Someone posted earlier that it wouldn't get released on DVD. Mr. Larsen seems to stay on top of getting his series out on DVD since it is a nice residual income, I would think more producers would push who ever holds the distribution rights to get their series out there on market.
Listening to some of the commentary on some of DVDs I have from older series the producers, writers, directors and actors have all stated that when the distribution companies are pushed or threatened with lawsuit or even sued the residual income can be a nice paycheck.. Even the series that only had one or two seasons, it seems Mr. Larsen stays on top of these companies to get his product out there on the market.
Glen A. Larsen produced the series "Manimal" it only had 8 episodes and it was released on video last year.
The original "Battlestar Galactica" was cancelled after one season of 22 episodes and then they came out with that follow up series "Galactica 1980" which got cancelled after 10 episodes and it's also been released on DVD.
It looks like Mr. Larsen is developing "Manimal" again.
Minds that have withered into psychosis are far more terrifying than any character of fiction.

It would be cool if it was released but I really don't care one way or another since I have all the episodes in very nice quality and have seen it many times.

Its actually for sale right now on ebay, not cheap though. It may be worth while asking the seller who its been released by. I have also seen it for sale in a sci-fi store in LA (US region though) they also had Logans run and Gene Roddenburry's Planet Earth (another classic 70's series)

Thank you. They have not posted a picture up of the dvd yet (Aug 2007) on play.com so I was not sure if the title "Fantastic Journey" was the same tv serial I remembered watching in the 70s. But thanks to the list of cast and picture on this website - I discovered that it was and I have ordered it now. Ta.

Unfortunately, the Region 2 release is now imperilled. The Zeta Minor site (
                                          http://www.zetaminor.com/dvd/incoming_db/listing.php?id=4223
) says that DD Home Entertainment is currently in administration, which means its directors are of the view that the company is insolvent, or is likely to become insolvent.
