She kind of disappeared halfway through "Turnabout" (even though she's seen briefly with the group in the end) and then she's absent entirely from the last two episodes, "Riddles" and "The Innocent Prey". I know Varian gives a quick little bit of exposition at the beginning of "Riddles", that she was going to stay behind in the previous zone for a while and then catch up, but she was never seen again. Anybody got the scoop? Did Katie Saylor leave the show, or get fired? Did she die? Have a sex change? What? Liana was my favorite character, too. It's funny, because in "Turnabout", it seems like at the beginning they're going to do a thing where Liana pretends to be sympathetic to the ruling faction of women in order to help her comrades escape, but then this plot direction is abandoned and she really isn't seen in the rest of the story. I wonder if it's maybe because Saylor left the show prematurely.

Apparently Katie got some sort of an illness and was unable to continue on The Fantastic Journey. No one knows for sure what became of her , Perhaps acting wasn't for her and she wanted to have a more private life. She was a beautifull young actress at the time.If you are out there Katie I hope you are well.

Katie Saylor's departure was kind of odd, if she had been canned, I'm sure she would have been removed from the opening credits. Her resume/acting history basically ends with The Fantastic Journey, after a series of appearances in various TV guest spots in the early to mid-70's plus her role in the cult classic INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS(1973). In fact, watching that(now on DVD from a good print)you'd have to look twice to see it was the same person, in those leggy outfits in FJ(I also realize four years can make a difference!), as she was quite easy on the eyes(at least to this then-16 year older in 1977) to look at. I wonder wherever did she go, and considering illness rumors, one hopes she is still with us. Someplace.
Saylor's departure and, outright disappearance has been a true mystery for FJ fans from the start. We know where the others went. Roddy McDowell went onto many films(FRIGHT NIGHT), TV appearances, etc before sadly passing away in 1998 from cancer. Jared Martin did alot of TV (The Incredible Hulk, etc) guest shots, before getting back into his own series again in 1988 in WAR OF THE WORLDS, and then a regular spot on DALLAS-nowadays he's pulled back from being a star be the director of some kind of theater troupe with his wife. Ike Eisenmann is best known for his small but memorable role as Scotty's doomed nephew in STAR TREK II:THE WRATH OF KHAN(1982) and now does the "Mark Hamill thing"-lots of animation voice overs, notably in the Disney dubbings of Miyazaki films. Carl Franklin left the front of the camera to go behind and become a successful and critically acclaimed director of some indie films.
But what of the lovely Katie?
Something I am sure she didn't like in the series-in the start of one show, the travellers are caught in another time storm or something which had them being blown about by what were obviously huge, off camera fans. The cat VERY OBVIOUSLY did not like this, no matter how trained or tranked it was as it was clawing her arm and shoulder to ribbons and rather than wreck the shot all she could do was hold on to it no matter what!
It was a fun show, and had some stellar guest stars(such as Joan Collins, Ian McShane) but fell to the fate of many mid-season replacement shows(which this was). It's cancellation prompted a letter writing campaign that rivalled Star Trek's so said story editor Dorothy Fontana, but NBC didn't blink this time. Part of the problem was it was telecast on Thursday nights at 8pm. In my neck of the woods-and others-local sports programming pre-empted that slot, forcing the NBC affliates to re-play the show on Saturday or Sunday afternoons around 4pm. Thus many people never saw the show's first five or so episodes. It left the airwaves in April 1977 and NBC aired one final show "The Innocent Prey" at the end of June of that year, in what became an open timeslot for specials and remaindered shows.

Yes it is a mystery, maybe someday we will find out what became of her.Ike Eisenmann was a spooky looking kid perfect for the Fantastic Journey.

It was against "The Waltons" and "Welcome Back, Kotter".
That was tough competition at the time.

THIS is all I have ever been able to find about Katie Saylor. It doesn't answer any questions really, but here it is:
During her roll on this series Katie became very ill and was hospitalized for a while. Her character was written out of the last two episodes and se was explained away as having stayed behind to help set up a the new government at the end of Turnabout. The cat evidently stayed in that zone with her.
Her career never seemed to recover after her illness during the filming of this series. Perahps she just found something else to do? She was also in the cult moive Invasion of the Bee Girls 1973 where she played Gretchen Grasowsky. If you ever see this Katie write in and let us know what happened and where you are now!

If this was really true, then I'm sure you could come up with a picture of her since she's your step-grandmother.

she went and got married to my granfather.
they rarely leave the house and only leave to visit tiffanys, louis vuitton, the market, and KFC.
she is very pretty, but looks older than she is, w/ long grey hair, and a lot of excess body weight.
she is also very involved w/ jesus christ, mary and joseph. you could call her a fanatic.

Although. That rumour has been believed for years , it simply is not true . Katie saylor left fantastic journey because she was ill . She was not fired !! She eventually married an attorney who handled Howard Hughes estate. She is now known as kate strassman .
Why are there no pictures of her now ? One can only presume she enjoys her privacy. I thank "katie" for giving us LIANNA and send my best wishes to her.

This thread needs updating badly. Contrary to claims Katie Saylor
passed in 1991. I myself had a fleeting channel on her activities
after TFJ in 1977. I was heartsick when NBC pulled the plug on
the series. She herself reported undisclosed health issues during
this period prohibiting her from continuing with the series.
More recently, cancer in general terms was cited as cause of death.
