WARNING: These memories are being shared as they come fleeting back so not in order
1976 at the tender age of just turned 18 and thanks to the kindness of a friend who was the NBC publicist, I was fortunate to have been a visitor a few times to the set of the pilot of 'THE FANTASTIC JOURNEY'.
Back then, there was a big brown on tan sign on the water tank, that read 'The Burbank Studios' having once been as it would revert back to being known as 'WARNER BROS. STUDIOS'
Today just happens to be May 27th and is AL EISENMAN's birthday. He is cast member IKE EISENMEN's younger brother. I share this because I was lucky to be having my picture taken with stars SUSAN HOWARD & SCOTT THOMAS Susan took my arm held me close and koo'ed, 'Watch the birdy ' (Wowza. 30 years later, I can still remember her warm hands and lovely 'ummfph.')
A bit later, near the area where the exterior 'jungle' meets the studio parking lot the set photog was taking some in-character / publicity pics with Ike & Jared (he in his Indian costume and jet black wig and dark makeup) and while I was watching a few feet away, young Al, no more than 10 was whittling on a stick. In fact, he showed me the 'right way' to whittle.
A week or so later, visiting the set again and for the last time: INT. PIRATE TREASURE TROVE - NIGHT laughing so hard with the cast & crew as the fake cobra (made as a prop from the film 'Ssssssss') that was guarding the mounds of gold dabloons and jewels hitting a greedy Leif Ericson in the nuts in the treasure trove set. Headed out of the stage and chatting with a young Carl Franklin seeing him always watching the director, Andrew V. McLaughlin directing and within the next 15 years, Carl becoming an AFI director and directing the ground-breaking ONE FALSE MOVE
Ahh memories
