His real name was Peter, his nick name was Tucker. There are several characters in this series that were known by nick names by their friends.

I can't confirm this, but at a guess, Peter Jenkins was nicknamed Tucker because of the amount of 'Tuck' he would consume (Chocolate, Crisps etc=Tuck, hence the term 'Tuckshop'). I guess he had a fast metabolism and was always snacking, hence why he was always skinny. But yeah he could eat for England.
I could be wrong but it's a sound theory.
