    I mean I understand that she's not the killer, but why was she looking and acting so strange at the end? She just walks past everyone and then we see her putting the knife in the paper bag. Wat's up with that? I have my thoughts, but anyone else's would be greatly appreciated.

          Spoiler inside::
          I literally JUST finished watching this movie a minute ago and I was wondering the same thing. Maybe it's to keep it open ended for a sequel? Or maybe she's glad that the woman killed all those people, except maybe her father.

            I think Alice's behavior at the end of the movie meant she'd finally gone 'round the bendshe was sort of unstable throughout the whole movie if you remember.
            Some think it means she means to continue killing where Mrs. Tredoni left off.
            Maybemaybe.
            Someone else said she just took the knife to add it to her collection of odd things. That could also be true.
            Or it could just mean that the director wanted the film to end on a creepy note. If that's the case, well then it worked!

              I don't think they did that back then though, keeping it open for a sequel. this was before the Friday the 13th films started and before the trend of making countless sequels to every movie began in the horror genre. gosh, it's really hard to believe that there was a time when horror movies didnt' have countless cash in sequels but there was back in the '70s and before then.

                I have no idea either. I bought this movie on VHS for $1 this past summer and felt really confused after watching it. I thought it was a great early slasher film with a nice creepy atmosphere, but the ending was just bizarre. It felt like the end of City of the Living Dead. A full on WTF moment. great movie though.

                  can you think of a better horror film other than the classics like night of the living dead or dawn of the dead or Halloween? I mean, this film is better than 90% of all the horror films that have ever been made.
                  it always shows just enough violence for you to get the point across that someone got killed or hurt without ever showing too much, so that way your mind creates everything that is not shown and you imagine far worse than what you see. and also by not showing too much violence it never goes into the comically over graphic slasher film area.

                    A better horror film than Alice Sweet Alice? The Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dracula, Psycho, Suspiria, Silence of the Lambs, Alien, Let the Right One In, Carrie, The Fly, Jacob's Ladder, Bride of Frankenstein, Repulsion

                        They discuss this on terrortrap.com a great horror film website. The idea is that Alice will eventually become a killer from the rejection, loss and trauma she experienced. Her character development is one that could easily fit in with most serial killers-rejection-or at least her perception of rejection from her parents (she will eventually discover her father's death to be sure), rejection from her church, sexual abuse (from the creepy landlord), sadistic tendencies and various acts of cruelty-including to animals (she kills a kitten when fending off the landlord-but seems to enjoy it). She IS a killer, just not the killer responsible THIS time. Eventually the idea is that she will become one in the future. I wish they had done a sequel, it would be worth it!

                            She's a troubled girl going through a lot of things all at once. Sibling jealousy, puberty, trauma from the murders and from having everyone suspect her. It all adds up to something that would mess pretty much anyone up even if they hadn't been a little unhinged to being with. Whether or not she would become a killer herself though, I think we're supposed to come to our own conclusions. A sequel would likely never have lived up to the open ending, sometimes it's better to just be left speculating

                              I was wondering what that was all about too! Also did anyone notice that she got skipped in the communion line?
