You guys probably weren't paying attention to them but there is a scene in the movie during the time they were in the Harlem club where the two of them speak to each other. It's after the scene when Jimmy's doing drugs in the bathroom but before the fight in the car. Jimmy goes on the phone, she comes downstairs and says, "Family night?" and he says "come here" as if he's with her in the movie. What's that about? Why is he acknowledging her as if he knows her?? it's just like in Taxi Driver.

I think in Taxi Driver he was lonely enough that he was just trying to start a conversation with her. In NYNY he probably knew her from working at the club. Maybe their characters were having an affair or something.

To me, it looks as if they might have been having an affair. Either that, or they were just really friendly with each other

I have the Special Edition dvd with deleted scenes, and you can see Jimmy (DeNiro) had an affair with Bernice, the blonde singer, when Francine was pregnant and went away to town, leaving Jimmy alone with his orchestra.
But there is no anything which indicates he had an affair with Diahnne Abbott.I think,he knew her from working at the club, and i also think she and him were friendly with each other.Probably they also joked and flirted, because she looks a hot and sexy girl and maybe she provocated Jimmy, and he liked her, maybe that's why he said " come here",because he had temptations to flirt with her.She was prettier and hotter than Francine. It was like a black Rita hayworth
