Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Orca

Having avenged his mates demise, he seemed to swim under the polar ice and seal his fate.

Actually the shark from Jaws 2 killed and ate the Orca in a fit of rage after it found out that Orca ripped off Jaws. The dead killer whale we see in Jaws 2 was what was left of the Orca from Orca after the shark from Jaws killed and ate it.

What's so confusing about it? It's a question. With an observation for possible clarification or rebuttal.

Well from what i remember he was still impaled, so it would be a matter of time until he would die a slow and painful death. So following the way of the samurai, like all good orca's do, he committed seppuku.

I think the Orca didn't commit suicide but he ran out of air because of the ice. And as the music during the credit alludes to the orcas and hunter and his wife will be together. How beautiful, not.

It is a really long time since I read the book, however, I think it was implied that the whale deliberately dove under the ice to kill itself.
