It's too bad the producers didn't hire Rick Baker to work on the make-up effects,
Why? His Harry Bigfoot suit in 1987 (face apart) was just as crap. Baker was never 'great' at full bipedal ape men/bipedal apes/bigfoot suits. Look at King Kong 1976. The full Kong 1976 suit isn't great either and Baker had a big hand in that.
Baker was great at face masks but not full upright bipedal ape man/bigfoot suits. -

Did anyone else think there was far too much footage of skiing? Watched this last night with a few beers in me - thought it was pretty dull, but not without charm. Loved the old lady thinking that beeping the jeep's horn would somehow scare off the yeti.

Yeah, I watched this when I was very young, it was shown on TV in the mid-80s. It has a special place in my heart, alongside such dross as Killdozer. They were scary back then, but as I now have the Vipco version on DVD and seen reruns on the Horror channel, it's not even remotely frightening but as I said it brings back fond childhood memories!!!

As a Robert Logan fan, I thought it was pretty OK. I've seen some far worse ski/monster movies. And, like the other poster, I got mine in a 6 disc set called Blood Chillers. I don't think I would have purchased it individually for $5.99 at Walmart though.

It was junk, but there were three things that stood out for me as worth the time spent watching endless ski scenes:
- 70s TV music score
- curvy ski outfits from a non-PC era - the women aren't even particularly attractive, but the skiwear is
- the hilarious 'attack' at the high school gym, with the crone's boozey 'The crown! The crown!' in all its Shakespearean Richard III glory.

I was suprised at its 4.1 rating here right now. I would expect at least 5 or 5.5 and higher. I watched it so far with 12 other movies from the 100 tales of horror pack on mill creek, and it was one of the better ones so far. The acting was decent and characters had some depth, the gore and horror was not overdone and blended well with psychological moments. The cinematography was not bad. I agree with the user that said the skiing scenes were long and overdone a little. The only other thing was the movie ended to abruptly and I didn't really like the ending of the ski in the tree killing the monster.

I thought this film was strictly so-so. The cast was solid, but the movie overall was way too slow and lacking in tension to amount to anything more than a mediocre timewaster.

I remember seeing it on TV in 1977 so there's that nostalgic value. I love it - goofy looking beast, a few slightly scary moments, 70s chicks in tight ski pants. Better than the CGI version that would get made today.

It would have been an okay film if every part of it wasn't so half-assed. For one thing, the writer blatantly breaks the Chekov's Gun rule when we find out early on that Gar is an expert marksman but his marksman skills are never put to the test instead, he ends up killing the monster with (of all the stupidest things) a ski pole.
Then there's that fifteen-minute stretch where Gar does not seem to notice or care that his wife is missing eventually, he goes to look for her, but I had no idea that that was what he was doing, since he NEVER mentions being worried about her (and moments earlier, he's partying it up at the carnival) I honestly thought he was just taking a mid-night ski.
(During said ski, the filmmakers are using a blue filter to make it look like night except you can see the noonday sun over Gar's shoulder this was some of the most agonizingly bad editing I've ever seen.)
The lone patrolman is killed by a Sasquatch many scenes later, they're holding his funeral I guess they found his body? Off-screen? And didn't tell us?
Most of the movie had me confused as hell oddly enough, I never got bored, though I wanted to see what happened next, even though I knew it wouldn't make sense worth the watch, then. -

When Bo and Yvette were in the barn the patrolman's body fell from the loft just before the Snowbeast tried to get in. -

I just watched this for the first time since I was a child.Like 5- 7 yrs.old.It holds a special place in my heart because of the memories it brings back of watching t.v with my dad.I was terrified when I was a kid.Granted it was 35 yrs or so ago.But after watching it now.I still feel it was a solid movie.

I like watching Clint Walker and Bo Svenson movies, Sylvia Sidney is always a hoot, and Yvette is still pretty hot in this, so I give it some leeway.
When they made JAWS they had trouble with the mechanical shark, so Spielberg didn't show it a lot (that created suspense). It seems like they're trying to get the same effect here, but it's because the monster is a bit corny looking. I liked the movie, but I think the 1995 movie 'To Catch a Yeti' with Meat Loaf was more entertaining (at least it knew it was camp). It's your typical 70's fare.
