I liked that episode although the one thing that bothered me was Mr. Carlson actually debating whether or not to inform the public the incumbent is a alcoholic and is regularly drunk. As a voter and citizen, I have the right to know and want to know this so I can make an informed decision.

It wasn't something in his past but rather something that he still was battling.and in public too. So the voters definitely had a right to know about the candidate's alcohol problem. But Bailey felt it was beneath Mr. Carlson to reveal something like that.
The episode was quite funny, however. Especially when they try to help Mr. Carlson lose. That campaign photo of him was quite hilarious. I also liked Les' prank calling claiming to be Deep Throat. -

Back 30-40 years ago, political candidates privacy in their personal lives was respected by the media, and many indiscretions were never revealed to the public. Whether that's right or wrong is open to debate, but it was a different time back then.
I think Bailey's overreaction was partially because she was the one who told Carlson about the drinking problem, and he told her he wouldn't use it. Although she should've realized that he blurted it out in the debate out of anger, not intentionally.
Agree that it's a great episode. One of the best of the entire series. -

Instead of a dress, couldn't Mr Carlson have just worn a pair of slacks and a simple halter top?
