I'm really surprised no one has anything to say about this movie. I happen to think this was one of the most realistic Vampire ideas out there (at least for the 70'), I mean what else was out then Blacula. This is one f George A. Romero's best horror films (next to Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead.

I think its definetly George Romeros best work to date. Not that Night og Dawn are bad theyre fantastic movies aswell. Its just something with the feeling you get from watching this i guess. And its really more like a drama then a horror movie. I just love it. And it has one of the best endings ever!Id love too see that 2 h 45 m version. But i guess that will only happen in my dreams.

Good to see you guys here! I was all prepared to have to start a thread of my own.
Charade, I agree with you on "Martin" being more of a drama. I'd say it's a drama with horror movie theme.
In my opnion, this is the best Romero movie, I'd say "Dawn of the Dead" is. However, I admire him for making this movie at all. It all seems very personal and yes it does take a different look at vampires.
I liked this better than "The Crazies".
Does anyone have the DVD that is pictured at the main page? I recently bought "Martin" at the Los Angeles Comic Book Convention and wouldn't mind owning it on DVD.
You can not see through The Tunnel Of Doom.

This movie is George Romero's second best movie, I think.Dawn of the Dead comes first.

Martin is a great movie. I was cringing when Martin took blood, and Ive seen some crazy $#!t in movies. But I think it was a genius idea the way Martin had to get his victims. It was much creepier than normal vampires.

I think part of the charm of this movie is that we don't know if the "family curse" is real or if they have truly just made martin believe he's a vampire and he's lost his mind although those flashbacks sure seem real well anyway, it is one of my favorites. I love love love it.

i am watching this movie right now and it rocks!!!
this movie really is a gothic tale, almost like a modern mary shelley or edgar allan poe i am surprised it hasn't been remade yet
so poetic, everything about it, the metaphors jump from the screen:
the decaying, crumbling town they live in reminds me of the central valley where i lived.no place for a young restless person
martin in tata's store, the old women comment how there are no young men in town, a sure sign of a dead town- everyone of working age has left
martin is seriously ill, struggling with alienation, puberty, obviously very conflicted about women. his belief he is a vampire would suggest a coping mechanism breakdown
martin can't relate, he is painfully shy ,he is an outsider, an observer. he can speak to the public through his radio call ins, comfortable in annonymity. but very clumsy on a 1-1. though he does horrible things with his method of rapes and drinking of blood, he strangely tries also to be gentle, showing a tenderness on his victims- he is crying out for love in the only way he knows how to.
tata is simply stubborn, narrow-minded, will not listen to anyone, my parents are kind of like him, won't let go of crazy ideas sometimes
when he kills martin it shows how disturbed he was. couldn't he know he would be locked up for killing him?
the sad, somber music, God, it is audial tears.especially with the a capella wail and the keyboards
the photogtraphy is crude like the bw in NOTLD but extremely effective in helping paint this emotional canvas, i don't know where you live, but if you've ever lived in a place where it isn't always sunny and perfect you'll know.
i could go on and on but its just a movie and there's more to life than movies,
                            peace out.
the capturing of gloom, is perfect.

I just got it for $7 off ebay. Real good stuff. I hated Crazies but Martin was excellent. Romero's most emotional movie. I've seen lots of gore but the blades on the wrist are more disturbing than any splatter movie I've seen cause of the context. Love the ironic ending too.
The family curse was just the mental disorder that ran in the family right?

i loved this movie, but there is still a question in my head, is there really a family curse? and if there is what exactly is it? i mean Martin wants to drink the blood, but does he have to? he says it makes him shake and fumble about when he doesnt drink it but do u think he would die from not drinking?

I recently bought a canceled check on ebay from Romero's old production company The Laurel Group of Pittsburgh that was signed by George Romero and John A. Russo (co-wrote NOTLD) to pay for production costs on the film Martin Thought it was a pretty cool item to buy and frame.
