Thanks for taking some of the shine off a great movie with that stupid, stupid title for a thread.
Alright, I don't do this often, but I feel like I really need to defend the OP's point. Why in the world do you think the thread's title hurts the success of this movie? The OP asked a good question; someone was obviously going to ask it sooner or later. Besides, this is a wonderful movie, regardless of the fictional content, and who cares if Max never existed. John Hurt made up for that by giving a marvelous performance. That's all that matters.

I was referring to the fact that I hadn't seen the film when I went to the board because on the main page for Midnight Express it didn't include Oliver Stone in the writing credits. I didn't notice there was an option to view 'more' so I went to the boards and staring me in the face was this title. What I was trying to get across was something like "A title such as "Question about Max SPOILER" would have been a more considerate title as I hadn't seen the film when I saw this thread's name, you absolute bastard."

First, I'm always a little surprised to find people becoming upset about finding spoilers on pages whose very purpose is to present discussions of movies that the people who post have seen. If you look at the quotes, trivia, goofs, etc., you run the risk of reading something that may give away plot points. (Some of those pages contain spoiler alerts. But not all.) But this is like going to the bar next to the theater and getting upset if you hear people talking about the movie they've just watched.
That being said, hopefully this will be sufficient warning:
SPOILER ALERT - READ AT YOUR OWN PERIL - NO ONE ELSE BESIDES YOU IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS E-MAIL AND WHAT YOU LEARN IF YOU KEEP READING - I'M SERIOUS - STOP NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE YOUR MOVIE EXPERIENCE (AND BY THE LANGUAGE OF SOME OF THESE POSTS, YOUR WHOLE PURPOSE FOR LIVING) SPOILED - IT'S ENTIRELY UP TO YOU WHETHER YOU KEEP READING OR STOP HERE AND GO LOOK AT KITTENS OR PICTURES OF DOGS PLAYING POKER - OH WELL, I TRIED TO WARN YOU.
A few favorites:
** The Titanic sinks at the end.
** Darth Vader IS Luke's father.
** Ilsa gets on the plane with Victor. After all, she was part of his work, the thing that kept him going. If that plane had left the ground and she hadn't been with him, she would have regretted it. Maybe not that day. Maybe not the following day, but soon and for the rest of her life life. And she and Rick would always have Paris.
** The planet of the apes WAS earth, which Charlton Heston learned after they took their stinkin' hands off of him, those ****, dirty apes!
** It was not a boat accident! And it wasn't any propeller; and it wasn't any coral reef; and it wasn't Jack the Ripper! It was a shark.
** Space was the final frontier.
** Was it safe? No, it wasn't safe. [Insert dentist drill sound here.]
** Mrs. Robinson was trying to seduce him.
** Tom Cruise couldn't handle the truth.
** Frodo and Sam weren't actually gay, but they were awfully good friends.
** It was beauty killed the beast. But he was dead just the same.
** She wasn't bad, she was just drawn that way.
** Lloyd and Diane go to England and the plane doesn't crash, but her dad is still in jail.
** Mike knows it was Fredo, he knows it was Fredo, and it broke his heart.
Did I miss your favorite? Please add it!
