I wouldn't call them ****.
I would call them awesome and one of the best or in the top 5 of opening credits for all time.
I never realized it until recently that we travel from earth, through space to Krypton during them. -

So when my friend saw me the other day and said that I, "Looked like ****," and then later on after tasting my cooking said, "This tastes like ****!" he thought everything was the best and those were compliments?

Some versions of the movie had the opening clip and some don't but yeah,things were done with quality and love.Do you know that Mad Max Furry Road was mostly reak stunts and exploding vehicles and very little CGI and it looks far more meticulous.

No I didn't know that about Fury Road but I also think that even younger audiences today appreciate more practical effects over CGI.
CGI is great and has its place but I like it when it's used subtly. Of course in some movies CGI is very important and can be overused.
Yeah I'm a huge fan of practical effects. it just brings much more life to any film.

Oh yeah I love 2001 and 2010.
I rewatched 2010 just a few weeks ago. I really like its style
EDIT: agreed, Kubrick changed the game when it came to Space movies!
Just like Star Wars did years later.
