I absolutely love this splendidly scuzzy 70's grindhouse slasher sleaze classic. Cameron Mitchell's wild portrayal of the crazed killer is really something to behold, especially in the scene where he sings to a bound and gagged Pamelyn Ferdin. Of course, the murder set piece with Mitchell brutally butchering gorgeous porn actress Kelly Nichols with a nail gun is positively breathtaking. I give it a 9 out of 10.

Not a great movie, but there are things about it that I like. I actually think the main theme music is very good. I'm amused by the evangelist ranting on the radio at the beginning ("forever!..Forever is a long time!"). The redhead in the tub is beautiful. And the movie really captures that 70's look, the clothing and the look of the kitchen. And how 'bout that country tune, "pretty ladyy!".

I thought it was okay, a bit silly in places, such as the woman dancing in her bra and knickers in front of the window for all the world to see, the victims who lost the ability to scream, the black couple who were un-shocked at the murders, as if it happens all the time.
I did like the ending where the person walks away, that was very effective.
People have to realise that these types of movies back in the 70s were made on a very low budget, made very quickly, so the special effects were very limited back then, that's why the murder scenes seems to be a bit jumpy when in fact there not, it's a way of getting around the problem, as well as adding lots of gratuitous nudity to compensate. -

I thought the movie was ok. I don't think it lives up to its infamy. Aside from a couple of really good kills in the first 20 minutes or so, the rest of the flick seems to be a laugh riot. Like when the girl's (15, I don't think so!)brother and his buddy sneaking into Bathtub Babe's apartment turned crime scene and freely touching anything and everything and leaving fingerprints (obviously these two are not fans of CSI) to boot has me rolling. However, I do tend to flinch as the killer bashes that woman in the head repeatedly with a clawend hammer despite the fact that we don't see any of the blows, the sound is gut wrenching enough.

I enjoyed parts of it, yeah, and I loved the overall tone. "The Toolbox Murders" started strong but really labored to maintain the viewer's interest after the murder scenes. I've gotta say, though, that the closing scene almost made up for the clumsiness of the film's second halfit just has such an oppressively lonely atmosphere.

I think the opening 1/2 hour was interesting (nice use of music, killings mixed, bath scene worth fame) but then there was too much involving the two young guys they simply are not interesting characters imho. The girl (she's supposed to be 15) also isn't a great actress here but some of the interactions with the guy has some power. But, a little of that goes a long way.
I think many will be bored with 2/3 of the film partially since there is something of a false advertising going on. Some reviews note the change in tone & in fact think the film benefits from it. Mixed bag.
