Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — You Can't Do That on Television

People who grew up with more recent kid-focused sketch shows may have a hard time appreciating how influential
You Cant Do That On Television
was. In addition to being the show responsible for creating "green slime" (which would be a staple on Nickelodeon for quite some time), the show was one of the first successful sketch comedies to feature an all kid cast (plus two adults in the form of the late Les Lye and Abby Hagyard). The show was also notable for pushing quite a few boundaries in terms of taste (for a kid show, at least), with toilet humor and Getting Crap Past the Radar moments a'plenty. It was Nickelodeon's most popular show until 1986 (when Double Dare (1986) overtook it) and, even after its cancellation in 1990, remained in constant reruns until it was firmly taken off the air in 1994. Unfortunately, the popularity of its spiritual successor All That, along with other Nick shows that followed its basic mold, seems to have seriously put a damper on the public's recollection of the show. A matter not helped by the fact that, after reruns were taken off the air, Nick has rarely made any further mention of the series (despite still utilizing its most famous running jokes during their annual Kid's Choice Awards) and has yet to release the series on DVD (although the first batch of episodes are available for download on Amazon.com).
Today, the show is, somewhat strangely, remembered mostly for being where Alanis Morissette launched her showbiz career. With many forgetting the impact it had on children's television in the 80's.
A major reason for the show's post-cancellation neglect is that a good number of its episodes were from an era when standards for political correctness were quite a bit looser. The show's 1981 season, especially, had jokes ranging from Native American stereotypes to kids getting cigarettes stuffed in their mouths by grown-ups. Needless to say, such jokes would not have flown by the increasingly PC landscape of the 80's and early 90'snote . Even during the series' run, you'll notice the gags gradually became quite a bit tamer and more PC friendly (especially in the Un-Cancelled last two seasons).

I liked the show as a kid, but it doesn't seem to be well remembered now. The show might get more respect if the reruns were shown from time to time.
I only saw it from time to time, and I admit that I mostly just remember having the stuff dumped over the kids' heads.

So to translate what the quotation in the OP says:
YDCDOT is being banned/made invisible as an act of deliberate censorship in order to appease evil liberals who would complain about it if it was not.
What disgusting news. Thanks for posting it though. At least now we know what is going on. Shame on them for censoring this to pander to liberals!
remembered mostly for being where Alanis Morissette launched her showbiz career.
              Bull crap.
              No one cares about that.
I don't even remember "Alanis" on this show at all. That must be because she was useless to it and contributed nothing. The original cast were the ones who made this show great, not the terrible replacement cast who came later and completely ruined it (I assume "Alanis" was among them).
you'll notice the gags gradually became quite a bit tamer and more PC friendly (especially in the Un-Cancelled last two seasons)
              Those seasons
              didn't even have
any real jokes. All they had was "fart humor" and similar garbage. The article acts like the show had a
              consistent quality
of humor from start to end, but it certainly did not. Once the original cast left, then this show devolved into unwatchable, absolutely brainless, gutter "humor" (90%+ of the 'jokes' became about bodily functions, which is something that the
              real
version of this show never did).
Glad to know "fart humor" is "PC friendly" and intelligent humor that is not based on bodily functions is anti-PC. That just goes once again to prove the fact that liberals have no brains and so "fart humor" is right up their alley.

Actually, the problem isn't the liberals, as I am a liberal and have no problem with this show. The problem is the alt-right nutjobs thinking everything is some conspiracy from the left because old white men tell you that before they cash your checks for giving them ratings.
This show is buried because of the legal rights which are a mess. Not because it is so risque, although it certainly pushed some things. There are plenty of more controversial things out there seeing the light of day.
Nickelodeon is a cheap corporation always cutting corners and they don't want to pay to get this out there, which is a shame because it would do gangbusters. They ignore their own history not because of liberals, but because they think there is money in it.
