People on this board keep comparing this film and Airplane!

Depends what you mean by compare. I don't consider the movie at all similar to Airplane! except that it involves planes. However, with the movie coming out around the same time it's hard not to compare them as a way to demonstrate how 1941 got it wrong.
I also compare it in that way to Life of Brian. Those two movies (Airplane! and life of Brian) are perhaps the two funniest movies of all time. For me that gives 1941 no excuse for the comedy seeming so dated. I was only 4 when the movie came out so I have no idea how people felt back then, but to me it seems like it must have seemed dated even back then.

1941 is a better off compare with John Landi's
The Blues Brothers -'80
. Both are epic comedies and full of high energy antics. TBB is funnier though and more down to earth visually and is contemporary compared to Spielberg's wacky period piece.
