Blu-Ray Release?

Good news and bad news about that on the home front:
The good news is that 1941 has been released on Blu-ray. The Blu-ray contains the theatrical and extended versions of the film, "The Making of 1941" documentary, production photographs, and trailers.
The bad news is that it is only available in the Steven Spielberg Director's Collection box set which collects Spielberg's Universal pictures from "Duel" through "The Lost World".
Universal has not announced plans to release 1941 as a standalone release.
The inclusion of 1941 in the box set was incentive enough to buy the set, and, of course, was the first movie from the set that I watched.

Got it today, both theatrical and extended versions and the carried over extras from the DVD/laserdisc.
Finally, a good transfer for something other than a 4:3 standard TV.

just got the Blue Ray the week it was released and I have to say it is excellent!
Looks like a brand new film with crystal clear clarity and sound
it is like seeing the film for the first time
I love have the original theatrical cut available
one of my all time faves from teen age years! -

I now have this movie on Blu-ray.
The picture quality is vastly improved over the DVD release, which was only 640x480 and highly compressed and the sound quality has been improved slightly but is still lacking. It has been separated for 5.1 but I am unable to provide an assessment because I haven't got a 5.1 system to test in on. There is a waiver at the head of the movie which explains what could and could not be fixed in the restoration.
The Blu-ray has both the extended version and the theatrical version, there being about 27 minutes difference between the two. It also has a feature length "making of" featuring interviews with Spielberg, John Milius, Bob Gale and Robert Zemekis.
While the transfer is not in the same class as Lawrence of Arabia (pretty much the benchmark for Blu-ray transfers), it is a very significant improvement on what was an appalling DVD.
