It's an Alien. For all we know it doesn't need food to grow. Do we ever see it eating? No. We see it attacking, tearing to pieces, and wrapping people up so it can 'impregnate' them, but we never see it chowing down on anyone. It just grows. It has acid instead of blood and a whole lot of other inhuman attributes so why should we assume it can't grow 6ft in a couple of hours.
