Peter Sellers should have won Best Actor

I agree. Sellers was unbeatable in this role, at least to me. So genuine, so far away from today's awards' cliches. Hoffman is a great actor, of course, but I don't consider Kramer vs. Kramer a superior film to Being There: he should have won earlier, for Lenny or The Graduate.

Generally agreed w/ everyone here. I would just add that in addition, the film should've been nominated for best picture that year. Easily over Breaking Away (and I loved Breaking Away). That being said, Apocalypse Now should've taken the oscar that year for picture. I mean, come on

He certainly deserved it; however it was a tough call that year. The other contestants were Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Roy Scheider and Dustin Hoffman.
However I find it more outrageous that "Being there " wasnt even nominated for the Best Picture Award.
