We hear at the beginning how four young film-makers travelled deep into the jungle, only to never be heard from again. A professor, curious as to their fate, retraces their path and finds their footage. What you have here is two stories in one. You have the more 'traditional' Hollywood story-telling of the professor talking to TV executives about showing the found footage on network television and the footage which was retrieved from the jungles (first person, ala Blair Witch).
I only got to see the edited UK version of this film, but the footage, both from the professor who follows them and the film-makers themselves remains as shocking today as it was at the time. Cannibal Holocaust was banned at the time of release and even had claims of being a 'stuff' film (i.e. one where real people are killed on camera). This maybe untrue, but viewers should be warned that, although the people who die are all just covered in fake blood and prosthetics, REAL animals were killed for the making of the film. Those with strong views on this may wish to steer clear.

I understand. I boycott Chik-Fil-A.
But I can separate the film as a final work of art from any injustices used to produce it.
Real animals are killed for our dinner. Does that bother you?

Well, the Hebrew word was "murder" which means unjust killing. The Bible does not condemn killing in war, for example.
Do you actually believe that laws against murder can be applied to animals? You can be a pacifist and a vegan fine, and not believe in killing animals. But you can't equate it to murder of a human being.

Murder is a legal term but there are those who will use it that are passionate about their cause when they think killing is wrong.
Like anti choicers think it is wrong for those unborn babies to be murdered.
Since I also use the word loosely, in my case for the killings of animals, I can see why anti choicers use it in that context even though I believe in a woman's choice.
I think because the word "murder" and it's meaning hold more weight or seem to take it to a more serious level than just killing is why it is used in those ways.
To get a message across even stronger.
Even where it is used properly, like when a human is killed by another with intent, killing and murder are used interchangeably.

Well abortion is a great example because its opponents do call it murder.
But I'm saying that "Thou shall not kill" obviously couldn't apply to every killing of a human being since those same Hebrews killed in war. So the Jews and Christians are not hypocrites if they kill animals.
But yeah, murder is a type of killing. But not all killing is murder.
