I really am in shock that movies like this aren't in the top 250 films. How could Lord of the Rings beat this????
I really believe that this and the Green mile are the two most endearing films ever made; and yet with this film - The camp it only gets 5.7, and with the Green Mile it is at 132 position. What is going on with this website???
Or is it that people don't vote???
Remember to vote when you post!
This film is a classic, as is the The Green Mile, and really both film should be in the top ten of this website.
Please vote for this movie each time you want to leave a message here. This film is "double excellant". Its that good.
Vote please!!

I just watched this and I'm one for tearjerkers like Beaches et al and although I enjoyed this greatly, there are several sections that drag and fall flat for me.
Sure there are great scenes like in the jail, the horse race and of course the finale but there's a little too much dragging to make this a bona fide classic.
Plus as someone else said, it's a remake and clung heavily to the entrails of Rocky.
There's plenty of unworthy films in the top 250 and you have to remember the people who are rating Dark Knight 10/10 are unlikely to seek this out.
Great film, but never a top 250. -

Have you actually looked at the list? http://www.imdb.com/chart/top
There's only 34 films released from 2005 onwards in that list. It's nothing to do with trends. -

it's a nice movie, but it wouldn't deserve more than it gets
it's pretty cheesy and predictable. something definitely goes wrong narratively towards the end - the film seems to jump unnaturally to its set up. Being Zeffirelli, however, it looks real nice.
do do do de da da da
