Nah Thought so too, but after seeing it again I have to say that the movie for the most part is quite average. The five might be a little too low though
The last scene is probably what makes us think this movie is better than it actually is. It's one of the most powerfull and well done scenes I've ever seen. -

I think this film's current rating of 5.9/10 is actually quite a bit too high. The 1979 version of The Champ is average
at best
and definitely doesn't deserve to be in the top 250. The original 1931 version of The Champ, however, is a whole other story. -

Yeah well I don't care about what anybody else thinks of this movie. The only thing that matters to me is that this movie touched me, moved me to tears. This is an emotionally powerful and poignant film with excellent performances, and for that I give it an 8.

I was also shocked!
Well, maybe I should watch it again since my memories are from my teenage years (I'm 30 now), but I absolutely loved this movie! I watched it over and over again, anytime it was on TV.
I gave it a 10, based on my earlier memories. I'll watch it again so re-analize it, but I bet I wouldn't give it less than 8! -
