You must be talking about the Hong Kong disc, which is completely crap.

Eureka has already released the film in Britain and that disc has A LOT better picture quality and extras compared to the HK DVD.

In your original post you made it sound like picture quality wasn't anything important though.

I bought the UK Masters of Cinema edition today, looking forward to getting it watched. It comes with a nice colour booklet, a commentary and also and introduction from Alex Cox. I'll be interested to see what differences there are on the Criterion edition although I expect they will both have the same transfer so it will just be down to extras I guess.

You know, I mean no disrespect to Criterion because I'm sure that their upcoming release is fabulous but I like the older cover art better, the key art with Ken Ogata with the naked woman laying behind him. This was the cover art which graced both the Homevision VHS (which is where I first saw the film) and the Criterion LD (which I own) and it's probably one of the only Criterion covers which featured nudity. I also liked the old "Vengeance Is Mine" title art logo which I think was featured on all of these releases including the recent UK DVD because; it's this Red, splashy thing which almost tries to resemble Kanji.
In any case, I don't exactly dislike the new cover (I even think a number of theatrical poster designs feature that still of Ogata walking, so it's not that revisionist really) but it's definitely not as striking as the one with the nudity and Ogata glaring at in this confrontational way as if to almost say "look what I've done!"

Bought it, watched it, would recommend it.
Criterion edition's light on extras though, so maybe Masters of Cinema disc is better????

There is very good commentary in MoC release, but picture quality is MUCH better in Criterion so I buy it. I'm not really into commentaries, but video interviews YES. There's one in Criterion and not in MoC. CRITERION is little bit better.

I just rented and watched the Criterion edition, and I was a little disappointed that there wasn't commentary. I love listening to commentary after watching a film, particularly if it was a film that struck me in some sort of way. I guess I'm kind of spoiled now with the other Criterion DVDs that I have watched, given that many of them have tons of extra features!

I watch criterion version today but I think the audio is very slow

Picture quality of Criterion IMO noticeably superior in DVDbeaver review screen captures:
                              http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/blu-ray_reviews_62_/vengeance_is_mine_blu-ray.htm
I notice that the Eureka edition is given as 2010. There is a later 2012 Dual Format edition and I wonder if that transfer is better than the 2010.
