Johnny got off all too easy; he should have suffered more.

Did Johnny deserve what Max does to him?
oh of course not. He deserved a box of Dunkin' Donuts, preferably the 12-pack. Mixed donuts of course.
He also deserved a persian cat and a free get out of jail monopoly card.
And of course a blow job while he was claiming all those prizes.

ABSOLUTELY. In fact, he deserved worse.

Something I reconsidered after rewatching it last night. Johnny drew the line at setting the truck on fire. He first reluctantly protests, then vehemently says he won't do it. Note, he does NOT set Goose on fire. He argues with Toecutter who roughs him up, which makes him drop the match.
You might even argue that Johnny was too high to have been a part of the rape, but he was still in the gang. I also got the impression he was a bit mentaly deficient; definitely not as cruel as the others.
More like he's punished for his association. But Mad Max never would have known any of that.

As far as max cares, he's one of those responsible for his wife, son and best friend. i guess he really didn't need to give him the 'chance' to cut through his ankle.

No one deserves death, although lethal force is sometimes necessary to neutralize an imminent or ongoing attack of sufficient severity. Nobody deserves to be burned alive.
But given the circumstances (i.e., no way to exile him from society), there didn't seem much else to be done about him. Johnny the Boy was a psychopath and a predator, and would certainly victimize others. Killing him was an act of defence by Max on behalf of Johnny's future targets.

I agree with your politics 100%, but this isn't a movie about a paragon of morality. It's about a man driven to the fringe of sanity

I love the use of morals in this film, Max talking earlier about hes scared hes gonna become like the ones he hunts on the road, also when hes setting the trap for Johnny, at one point Max looks as if he saying to himself "I shouldnt be doing this" and the next he gives an almost psychotic smile as he stands up
                    Always loved that scene!

Johnny the Boy should be elected to Parliament for his actionshe's a true hero of the people. "Remember him, when you look at the night sky!!!" will be his campaign slogan..
