I saw this back when I was a pre-teen, in '87.
It always stayed in the back of my mind, because it's such an influential film (for an intergalactic movie).
The unique characters, especially the humanoid who looks a bit like Ackbar (except he's not a villian).
I think they were outmanned and outgunned, never stood a chance.
The main reason it stuck with me until now is the ending:
I remember the ship's captain being badly wounded, having defeated the remaining enemies. Bleeding to death, he manages to get his son to a safe planet.
That is legendary!
Glad it's here, will watch sometime soon.
