Shad's sister - big plot hole.

I think we've mentioned this before but i wonder if screenwriter John Sayles forgot it was Shad's sister that the mutants kidnapped and that Gelt then blew away when he chased their ship. Its very surreal watching Shad and Space Cowboy watching the Malmori ship get destroyed with almost satisfaction. And then the rest of the picture Shad doesnt even seem to register that his sister is not around anymore and if he does know he doesnt seem to worried. They should have used some random woman from the planet to be used in the kidnap/rape subplot.

I just finished watching the special edition blu-ray and in the extras, one of the crew members said that John Sayles' original script was about 160 pages. Another crew member said that Roger Corman showed up on the set one day and started ripping pages out of the script at random, saying,"we don't need this." Although there is no direct mention of any scenes regarding Shad's sister following her death being on one of the omitted pages, it's reasonable to assume that it was either removed for budgetary reasons by Corman or it was never written to begin with. Knowing Roger Corman, i'm inclined to believe the former.
