Agreed - classic Ted Knight comedy here. Seems like every time I watch it I'm zoned in a little more on his lines.
All the key players are pretty damn funny in this one.

I agree. Knight was a hoot in Caddyshack. Chevy Chase mentioned in an interview some years ago that looking back, Knight probably gave the best performance of the bunch (or something to that effect).

I heard Ted Knight never improvised, or improved, his lines
                            ever
because he got pissed off when he saw the cast members riffing on the script. He said it threw his timing off, or something.

This was Ted Knight's final movie. I wonder if it's because of the heavy improv and big egos on this set. I used to watch him on Too Close for Comfort growing up, and watching Mary Tyler Moore in reruns and syndication. But for his last film role, it was very iconic, historical and classic.

He went out on a really high note. The movie wouldn't have been the same without him.

Have to admit, I know him from Too Close for Comfort mostly, but he played the pompons ass to a letter in Cadyshack and really gave it that seasoned flavor. It's funny I used to work for a guy who was that "full" of himself yet was no better off than me, so that whole boating scene when he's christening his 20' POS sale boat and Dangerfield's anchor comes in and sinks it is just a smile to my face every time

                                          Ted was funny in everything.
He regularly stole the show in The Mary Tyler Moore show.
