The scene with the split screen shows, on one side, Michael Caine listening to a message from Bobbie while, on the other, "Bobbie" is spying on Nancy Allen.
Basically my question is, are these things not happening simultaneously, even though we might assume that's the case? Since Dr. Elliott is Bobbie, this wouldn't be possible. In other words, we're being intentionally misled in two ways: another actor does the voice for Bobbie on the answering machine, and the implied simultaneity of these scenes make it even harder to guess that Elliott=Bobbie.

Of course, Caine is Bobbie. The character watching Liz is a police officer. The actress played the cop and some Bobbi scenes.
