No matter how many times I've watched this film, I still end up crying. It such a powerful film and depressing movie at times.
The scenes that usually get me is the scene where he says "perhaps she could love me as I am." And than Mrs. Treves end up crying.
"Oh Mr. Merrick you're not Elephant man at all, no you're Romeo. And you see Merrick start to cry.
"I am not an animal!" "I am a human being!"
These 3 scenes and the ending are heartbreaking moments. This film has to be one of if not the most emotionally moving film I've ever seen.
It's a must see for everyone. -

Very sad filmtowards the end, when he yellls out, "I'm not an animal, I'm a human being.. I'm a man." That part got me. Poor guy.
I felt for him because growing up, I often got judged for my appearence and got tormented because of it, so watching this hit close to home. -

I think any person can be emotionally moved by this film whether you are pretty, homely, handsome or ugly. It doesn't matter, because anyone can feel ostracized or mistreated at times in some way.
There are about 10 scenes that are veritable tear-jerkers in this movie.
The most poignant to me were:
The 23rd Psalm scene
He meets Treves' wife for the first time
When the fellow side show performers gather to help him escape ("Luck my friend.. Luck")
The Train Station scene ( being harassed by the kids)
The theater scene when he's being honored and receives the standing ovation
and of course..The ending -

Oh yes. When he meets the good doctor's wife..that brings me to tears. Also, when the wife starts crying, I find that incredibly touching. It's almost as if she was so overwhelmed with the sadness and empathy she felt towards him. Beautiful film. Shockingly, I've only seen this movie once because it's soewhat emotionally draining to watch.
