Having recently seen the movie on ACM (219 min) and read the incredible account on the making of HG in the Medved brothers' "The Hollywood hall of Shame", excerpts from the Steven Bach book and the trivia here on the board I am confident this would be one hellavu movie on its own and much better and entertaining then the original one.
The things Cimino dreamed up for this movie are really incredible and he got so full of himself he required a personal bodyguard. The executive producer on HG was his then girlfriend (which may explain a lot) and rumour has it that a seriously amount of the budget went to 'golden brown' for him and the cast.
Can you see the clashes with his cast, crew and producers? The crazy antics during the premiere and the aftermath : this could be great.
The part of Cimino would be oscarworthy. Pacino would have been perfect but I guess he is way too old. Maybe Benicio del Toro ? Any suggestions ?

Great idea but i'd be a lot cooler if for example HBO made a 4-8 part mini series, as i doubt that many people would watch it in cinema

OK, movie or HBO mini-series, as long as it gets made and some talent gets involved.

          Jon Lovitz should play Cimino

I've often thought the same. The story is so over the top and ridiculous, though I love the finished film. Out of respect for Cimino, a movie about making this movie should be made after he passes away

The guy to play cimino has already died suddenly. Ron silver looked and sounded just like him
