I always wondered that too
Apparently it was
"the Food Court at the Yonge & Bloor Center (located in the basement/Yonge and Bloor Subway enterance of the shopping complex) just across the street from Yorkville. "

Hi, I don't know where you got the information about the mall but it is incorrect. The opening mall scene was shot at 20-20 University which is all part of the underground section linked to the McGill Metro station in Montreal. At one point you clearly see the 20-20 sign. Some of the stores have French names only (La Crmire, for instance). I live in Montreal and know the mall well (or at least, knew it well in the early 1980s, the time this film was shot).

I know for a fact it's in
Montreal
as I have a photo from when the wife & I were there in 1977.
It's a very pretty MALL and we got a big kick when we saw it in the film.
