I loved when Superman got his revenge on that bastard! When he spun him in that chair, I thought for sure Rocky would puke his guts out!

The whole scene is classic, from the "never seen garbage eat garbage before" line, the dude breaking his hand punching supes, supes laying his ass slap down on his own dinner tray, the guy eating his food while Rocky slides past him down the counter and then the douche finally landing butt first on the slot machine. Perfect. So enjoyable to watch.
If this scene was in man of steel or dawn of justice, they probably would've had superman beating him close to death with his bare fists in a realistic brawl of vengeance. On the other hand, Superman II was ingenious in how it got its tone down to perfection. A real crowd pleaser, something that sought to leave its audience happy instead of bogging them down with real world stuff. SII is pure escapist entertainment, the best form.
And you can deal with me; Doug Masters!

Absolutely !!!! My favorite part! Especially when the one guy at the counter keeps eating and doesn't miss a beat! Just swivels a bit and lets the douchebag zip by on the counter!!!! Hysterical!!!

it was sort of out of character for Clark to get revenge on anybody, but I'm glad he did. I would've if I had that advantage. What I never understood was how he knew he was in the diner?

My guess was that he figured he comes there routinely. He saw how Rocky interacted with Ron as if he was a regular there

While Superman typically wasn't about revenge, this one felt very justified. I agree that it is a classic scene. The guy completely deserved it. I also agree that it was done perfectly. Man of Steel had revenge scene with Superman destroying a guy's truck. This just seemed cruel and an over-reaction to me. It was far more out of character. In Superman II, he didn't seriously hurt Rocky here. It was mostly his pride that got hurt and he deserved it.
I would also point out that this is the type of humor than I loved in Superman II that isn't continued in its reboots. Superman II is the best super hero film of all time.
In regards to how did Superman know he would be there, it's clear from the movie that Rocky is a regular there. The people running the place know him by name.

Probably doing fly overs using his X-ray vision and landed when he finally saw him back.

Was he getting revenge or teaching a bully a lesson?

I started a similar thread a while ago which has since been deleted and came here to ask about it again.
And the first time, the responses were the same. The very vast majority agreed that Supes did the right thing.
However it is refreshing to see at least one other poster I can agree with at thinking Supes did the wrong thing or questioning it.
Because, yeah, it does seem out of character for Supes to do this.
Yes, Rocky did sucker punch a very vulnerable Clark but now Supes has the upper hand and strength and advantage so it is no longer a fair fight. It would be like if I punched a 3 year old because he slapped me that didn't hurt at all.
And besides, if Rocky hadn't hit Clark then the waitress wouldn't have turned on the TV and Clark wouldn't have learned about the terrible trio taking over the US at that time.
So in a chain of events, Rocky in a way, helped save America or maybe even the world sooner than later.
And what thanx does he get? By getting sucker punched right back where two wrongs don't make a right.
Shame on those who think revenge was the right thing to do in this case.

Yeah, people think they needed Supes to save face at the end and have Rocky be put in his place. I still think it's not necessary.

Excellent and interesting point. I never thought of that

If Superman would have just let it go then that would have shown at how better he is than everybody.
But since he goes back to beat up on Rocky, that just puts him down at the same level of pond scum that Rocky is.
By doing this, Supes shows that he is no better than the rest of us after all.
He should have been the bigger man in all terms.

If anyone of you actually saw the ABC extended version, you'd know the only reason Clark even remembers Rocky is because he just happens to run into a bully at the Daily Planet. That adds a little more depth to that final scene.

I really like that scene because it was a very human thing for Superman to do. It perfectly illustrates how giving up his superpowers to be with Lois Lane rubbed off on him.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

I didn't look at it as revenge, so much as Rocky needed to be taught a lesson for his bullying and harassing of the other patrons at the diner. And what better way to teach a lesson than to inflict a little violence on someone?
