Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Gimme a Break!

Just found this out and thought I'd share it with all the GAB fans on here. In that episode from the second season, Alice Ghostly played the neighbor Mrs. Falkenberg. She was a well known character actress, but here is what I just found out: She appeared in the original production of Lorraine Hansberry's second play "The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window", along with Dolph Sweet, who played Chief Carl Kanisky on Break. So this episode was a reunion of sorts for them.

That's interesting. Thanks for sharing. Her appearance on the show was before she started being featured regularly on 'Designing Women.' Great actress.

Hello, again. Yeah, she was known for a long time, which was why there was applause when she first entered. Designing Women started near the end of Break's run, of course. And she did stuff before and after Break.

She did character roles on 'Bewitched' and 'Mayberry RFD.' Plus movies. So yes, she had been around for a long time. But she was always great on these sitcoms.
It's too bad she didn't become a recurring character on 'Gimme A Break!' as I think it would have been fun to see her again butting heads with Nell and the rest of the family.

But at the end of that episode all was well, so it was resolved.
