I'm sorry but Jackie Chan should reprise his old role, he's still up for it.
Jessica Simpson is NOT hot enough to play a character once played by Farrah Fawcett.
The priests need to be slightly older and Chris Rock should never be casted in any film ever!
Ryan Reynolds is a fine fine FINE choice to take a role. -

You can't remake Cannonball Run. It can never happen. The casting was too perfect. The only way you can do a remake, is kinda make a cannonball run 4 (Speed zone with John Candy is technically part 3). You take all new people, and put them in an updated race. By having new characters, you create new situations and stunts. Also you can't help but make the movie somewhat like the original. I mean going back and forth to each car and having each person add their own schick to the movie would make it better than just trying to capture lighting in a bottle twice. Also throw in cameos by any of the surviving original cast.
And just something to throw in there casting-wise: Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall as two NASCAR loving rednecks in a pickup truck. -

A mixture of the new and old would work, but not different actors playing the original roles. Havent you guys seen sequels where they have the same charactor, but a different actor? They never work. So if any of the originals where interested in reprising the role then use them, but dont try and use the same roles for new actors, if Vince Vaughn was in it, make a new charactor, not take over the role of J.J. And the movie does not need to be remade, part 4 would good enough. (and lay off part 3, it was a decent film, just because it didnt have the cast of the last 2 didnt mean it wasnt worth watching)
Japanese Team: Jet Li & Jackie Chan
Jackie had a diffrent partner in each race anyway, and seeing those 2 together would be great.
And while where at it, lets add some cars to really make it stand out.
The General Lee, Starsky & Hutches car, The A-Team Van, Herbie The Love Bug, Knight Rider why go for new actors? Why not make it a "Where have you guys been?' cannonball? Get Shnieder and whats his name to drive the Charger, and the original Starsky & Hutch ..etc.. and then put the new actors who are doing the remakes in the mix aswell? -

Wow I like that idea I can imagine selling 50 million worth of tickets alone of they had Mr T and Murdoch in the van or Chris Lloyd in the BTTF car. I don't know about Herbie, but that would be a nolstalgia buff's dream. I could actually see Ben Stiller pulling this type of movie off with Owen and the gang. That would make so much money.

Dont forget the two guys in the NASCAR: Terry Bradshaw and Mel Tillis.
Have Larry the Cable Guy and Ron white driving that car

lilguybrush:
Peter MacNicol is quite possibly one of the greatest suggestions for a remake actor in the history of the world. My friends and I play this game all the time with a lot of movies but you win the prize. He'd be perfect for Mr. uhMr. uh. uh. FOYT!! He even looks like him. -

You HAVE to have Dom DeLuise in any remake, particularly as Captain Chaos.
They should have given the Captain his own movie.
As for the lamborghini babes, they'd have to be busty and all the female stars now are too damned flatchested.

I'd love to see the next Cannonball Run movie! That'd be awesome. I haven't seen Speed Zone yet, probably never will, but I'd watch the next one if it had at least 1/2 the original actor/actresses in it (and there were ALOT).
I just found the DVD for this, this past weekend, at Wal-Mart for about $7. Has lots of great features! Bios for about 7 or 8 of the main characters which are usually that many pages long, and this includes filmographies for each one (I forget what year they go up to). Plus there's an audio-commentary option where Hal Needham and Albert S. Ruddy talk about the film (while it plays in its entirety), and all the fun times they and the cast had.
I'm hoping to find Cannonball Run II on dvd (I have it on VHS), and also Smokey & The Bandit II (my vhs copy is not good). I found Hooper on DVD with the Cannonball Run (just in different sections of the store, heh heh), and I've got Smokey & The Bandit I and III on VHS (store bought), and Stroker Ace taped on VHS from the Starz channel.
I gotta say it againTHANK GOD these movies were made
This is my signature, nice eh? -
