You HAVE to have Dom DeLuise in any remake, particularly as Captain Chaos.
They should have given the Captain his own movie.
As for the lamborghini babes, they'd have to be busty and all the female stars now are too damned flatchested.

I'd love to see the next Cannonball Run movie! That'd be awesome. I haven't seen Speed Zone yet, probably never will, but I'd watch the next one if it had at least 1/2 the original actor/actresses in it (and there were ALOT).
I just found the DVD for this, this past weekend, at Wal-Mart for about $7. Has lots of great features! Bios for about 7 or 8 of the main characters which are usually that many pages long, and this includes filmographies for each one (I forget what year they go up to). Plus there's an audio-commentary option where Hal Needham and Albert S. Ruddy talk about the film (while it plays in its entirety), and all the fun times they and the cast had.
I'm hoping to find Cannonball Run II on dvd (I have it on VHS), and also Smokey & The Bandit II (my vhs copy is not good). I found Hooper on DVD with the Cannonball Run (just in different sections of the store, heh heh), and I've got Smokey & The Bandit I and III on VHS (store bought), and Stroker Ace taped on VHS from the Starz channel.
I gotta say it againTHANK GOD these movies were made
This is my signature, nice eh? -

My guess is that in the next few years this will get remade with the frat pack. It would be the perfect opportunity to pack them all into one movie and give each of them a descent size role. It will probably only be loosely based off of the original by just sticking with the basic plot and a few of the original characters.

All these are great choices. For the hot girls you gotta go with Carmen Electra and Pam Anderson(or Jenny McCarthy) . The girls in the original were the total bombshell type.
Some friends and I did the whole cast one night in college over beers but that was a couple of years ago. The only addition from our list would be in the Terry Bradshaw/Mel Tillis roles. We had Bret Farve and Dwight Yoakum. That would rock!
I would never have thought about Ryan Reynolds/Jack Black. I would pay serious money to see Jack Black in the Captain Chaos outfit!
For the priest how about Chris Rock and Ron White(perfect for Dean Martin they are both drunks!) -

If they do a remake of the Cannonball run, they shouldn't do an exact remake because there's know way possible, who is gonna fill the shoes of sammy davis jr? nobody will!. They should still get Burt Renolds atleast some of the cast memebers from the old film. There should atleast be must have charaters in the movie, they aren't much but I think thats where it stands today.
Mia and Letty,Jordana Brewster and Mitchell Rod, they should be driving the Lamborghini.
James Bond, they can go with Persire Bronson or that new guy but he should definately be driving the aston martin. That would be awesome if they could get him to hunt down Triple X durring the movie.
Triple X, should be done by either Ice Cube or Vin or anyone?, they could give him his GTO or build a new car for him but it can go either way but he and James should aways be battling each either through out the movie.
Pinky, I think he would be a great addition to the movie, he's funny and gots a pink limo.
Brain O conner, Paul Walker. It maybe crazy but he should be in the movie as an undercover cop to bust down on some of the cannonballers, his main mission should be to crack down on Sean boswell. Give him the new Skyline GTR and your good to go.
Sean Boswell, D.K, Lucas Black and I don't know his name, those two should be in the movie as drifters
Carter and Lee, Chain and Tucker, make them be the same charcters from rush hour and give them a black Corvette or Viper SRT-10. Also they are looking for Dom.
Dom, Vin(Thats if hes not TripleX) he should be on the run again but needs money to flee the country for good. So he enters the Cannonball run.
Of course they should also have such celebs like Ben Rothlessberger and Peyton Manning and Terrel Owens. Jey Leno, Dave Chappelle, Steve O, Chris Pontus or Jonny Knocksville, Ice T and Henry Rollins, Shaq and Dewanyne Wade, Jeff Gordon or Dale Enhard,
Just some of the Ideas but you can't have them all.

Remake? No, no no ,no ,no. No.
Like all the other recent attempts at updating fond memories, it just wont work!
Dont bother even trying to "pick" a cast. The one and only reason the movie works is because of the familiarty, friendship and general sense of fun of the origional.
A new movie in the same vein would be fabulouse, but it would have to be born of the current hollywood listers to have the enthusiasm to make it work. It just seems to me that the commeradery of older generations is somewhat lacking.
Just to help me illustrate this i am thinking of the Carry On films from old England town. An attempt was made to ressurect the magic with, at the time, the cream of British comic talent. Failed misserably because the cast lacked the chemistry that made the "lightweight, tongue in cheek" original cast work so marvelously.
I say, "Leave well alone" because the younger viewer still adore this movie. -

Make an original for a change and stop ruining all these good movies by remaking them.
