That's a good question. Toying around with reasons, maybe they felt it would not be "okay" to do because it would be a kind of cheating and they were concerned they'd cursed by supernatural forces.

Doing something like that would have about as much meaning as printing up a business card that says, "I am the President of the United States of America," carrying it around with you, and expecting people to believe it.
Being able to pull the sword out is what has the meaning, not doing it by some other means.
Why aren't cookies called bakies?
