Worm rape question

The vagueness is just a by-product of the "walking the fine line between R and X" rating. (X rated still existed at the time, although it died a few years later.) I didn't know about what you said concerning the Moran scene initially being the sexually-charged one. In the original, was she supposed to die while being stimulated by the hands, or simply crushed? Was it hands or tentacle/cables?
I'm glad they switched that to the worm scene. I think it worked much better than the crushing scene ever would have. It would have been neat if they could have worked it out where Moran was at least stripped before being crushed, but I guess she didn't go for it.
I think that if the worm scene could have been shot with no worries about MPAA, it would have been more graphic and clearer. You can see one tentacle wrapped under her as she's lifted and penetrated the first time, but you don't really view that again. The rest is just simulated, but a very nice simulation! I always thought to be more realistic the scene should have been about twice as long. She just doesn't have enough time to get so scared/excited to have that intense of an orgasm, even by the super-human worm, but it would have been better if she had been rode harder a bit longer, all the while her moaning becoming more intense until finally she gives out. You wouldn't want to drag it out too long because then it would lose some of the intensity, but about 1 full minute of sex before climax would have worked better, I think. -

Thanks, vwisniewski. That's actually a pretty fun website, very well researched and aimed right at the gutter. Hat's off.
But someone needs to get that website's operator one of the imported DVD versions without all the screen noise so he can do new screenshots. The best one is a PAL format DVD from Italy that shows a 16x9/1:85:1 transfer and the picture is not darkened: That may have been a decision for North American prints but the one used by Alan Young Pictures for the Italian DVD is a digital transfer from the negatives and you don't have to squint. -

Howdy Squonkamatic!
RE: Galaxy of Terror, the web site, great little corner of the web to find info on obsure cult movies with screen caps. And the occasional movie clips.
Speaking of which the current clip series is of the very scene being discussed. I'd suggest visiting the site (galaxy-of-terror dot com) and D?Ling those clips while you still can as there's a message, granted posted on April 1st, that seems to indicate there may be a change in management soon too keep the site from disappearing.

It's funny that you say you've seen "unedited" footage from this scene when Roger Coreman states in interviews that he was angry that he had to cut footage from the original scene so he destroyed the cut footage immediately. Must have had a crystal ball at these FX workshops you were at

I read an interview with Taaffe O' Connell in "Femme Fatale" magazine where she talks about her "Galaxy of Terror" character; she says in the interview that Damelia suffered from severe sexual repression, which explains her deep-seated fear of phallic worms. The shock and horror of being raped by the giant worm probably caused Damelia to have a very intense orgasm and subsequent fatal heart attack.

To Woodyanders:
If I understand correctly, you said Dameia was severely repressed sexually. I'm interpreting that to mean that she has sexual desire but either will not or cannot express it, due to intense inhibition. When she was raped by the worm, the shock and horror apparently "overrode" her inhibitions and she just released her pent-up, repressed passion all at once, sexually "exploding" with great force, which seems to explain her responding to the worm like she did, thrusting up to meet it when it penetrated her and continuing to respond that way as if she were actually enjoying it.
Am I on target with any of this? Up to now, this part of the movie has kind of confused me.

The Giant Slug/Worm Actually Fornicates the Girl!
It actually performs a Humping motion as she screams in pain.
She finally stops screaming and dies.
The worm continues pumping her for a few strokes before it realizes
that she's dead.
Then, perhaps desiring to maintain a degree of
class and propriety,
the Worm decides that it doesn't want to engage in Necrophilia
(making love with a dead body).
IMHO, it might be the most wonderfully indulgent, disgusting, gratuitous, funny, stupid and offensive scenes ever to appear on film. -

I can understand why the Slug/Worm was so full of Inseminoidal fluids being trapped up in space so long. Then he meets/rapes a cute chick like Damalia and of course his megaload of cum kills her, flooding the chambers of her heart and stopping it dead. This is no surprise really because we've all heard of women dying during sex from an overdose of ejaculate; men, too, have died during intense intercourse from cardiac arrest. But like the gentleman above me stated, this Worm is NOT a necrophile he realizes that Damalia is dead, he got to bust a nut, and his sense of "class and propriety" persuade him to pull out and slink off.
I have met and worked with a couple worms before on a space probe near Jupiter (at an FX workshop) and they are NOT the low-lifes that some prejudiced people make them out to be. Worms, escpecailly giant Space Worms, are truly classy and upstanding sentient beings that deserve better treatment from humanoid dirtbags who slander them "maggot rapists".

I havent seen this movie in over 20 years that rape scene is the only thing I remember about it, that and some vague recollection that Joanie Cunningham was on a space ship.
Normally I really hate rape scenes in movies, like the one in Death Wish 2, but I guess this was so unbeleivable the rape was irrelevent, she did look really hot all oiled up for that scene if you can just put the maggot factor out of your mind.
