I think the rape scene scared me the most.
My folks took us to see this at the theatre when it was out mostly because they weren't able to get a babysitter. They had us trained to cover our eyes when there were "adult" or "scary" things and cover our ears when there were "cuss" words. 😉
Can't say I didn't peek a bit being a curious kid but if it was intense enough I'd just cover my eyes back up and keep my head down for a bit till my mom poked me it was ok. LOL
I wonder if this movie is on DVD or something.
I kept trying to remember who was in it thinking it was John Wayne's song but apparently it was Eddie Albert's. I knew it was a son of a big star but till I looked up this movie, I couldn't remember for sure.
Obviously I was like 6 or 7 when this movie came out and why I recall it, I don't know. I guess it scared me quite a bit. I only really remember Edward Albert and the rape scene, God knows why. I think the idea of the latter was scarier than some of the other things. Plus I'm sure my mother was commenting to my dad at the time about how controversial that scene was so it stuck in my mind.

Im glad Im not the only one who A) remembers this movie & B) it scared the crap out if me as well. The head scene was the one that really creeped me out.
I think it was because I had a crush on Erin Moran.

That scene where Quuhod (Sid Haig) tries unsuccessfully to dig that shard out of his arm always gives me the creeps.

It's not scary now as an adult, but it creeped me out as a kid.I just found Forbidden World on VHS for $1,it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

I always thought the creepiest part was when Zalman King was trapped in that huge room with all the catwalks and he is terrorized by a huge slimy clawed alien that materializes out of (we don't know it at the time) his inner fears. It finally grabs him, lifts him off the ground and claws his throat and disembowels him at the same time!! Very scary.

Actually, the worst part was when he puked on screen before the attack. Disgusting.

The scariest is Alluma's face when she's really worked up.

                        No serieously.
As kid something that had me on the edge of my seat when I watched it was the monster that represented Bealon's fear, as it followed the crewmembers from underneath the catwalk.
By the way, my biggest fear too is to get tentacle-raped by a giant insect.

I was also traumatized by the movie when I saw it in a theater as a kid.
I watched it 3 or 4 times aven writing down names and causes of death - so I know exactly the scene you are talking about.
What's so creepy about it is the editing.
Englund is running along the corridors, the camera moves along, but with each cut you don't realize if it is his point of view or not.
Doors open, and the camera moves through or you suddenly see him running in a medium shot.
Then finally a door opens and you see the close-up of the burnt face.
Then cut to Englund's face who expresses the kind of raw terror that the over-cool actors of today's films simply do not achieve anymore.
The music is creepy beyond belief too.
                            Great movie!!!

Actually the music was probably the only thing in the movie I HATED.

I think I found a still shot from the scene you're talking about. Here it is, and it's still pretty effective face to scare you when the doors just open and there it is.

I just re-watched this movie the other night. Yes, it is Grace Zabriskie's character (the Captain of the ship) who gets toasted. You see her burned corpse falling forward. It's pretty gruesome, but frankly, for the most horrifying moment in this great late-night movie, you can't beat the sexy gal getting raped to death by a giant maggot.

I saw this in a theater as an adult, and I had to hide my eyes a couple of times. For me the scariest moment was when the commander went down the hole and ended up getting sucked dry by the big space leaches/worms or whatever they were.
                                    Disgusting and creepy!

The scene you remember is where the captain goes to the airlock to fight the creatures who came along from the Hesperiades(sp). Ranger(Robert Englund) and Core(Ray Walston) see the event on the monitor. Ranger goes running to help and opens airlock. The captain's lifeless burnt body falls on him. BTW you can probably thank James Cameron for the creepy effects in movie. He figured out how to make the effects work on screen.
