Not a very good summation. I have conversations on the All in the Family board, and the TNG board(usually). Here, it's utter and total chaos.

There's no reason for me to. And there's no reason for them to either. All cool and calm on those boards. Namely, because you and others, Carpenter don't go there to stir trouble.

Well, I'm sorry to say this, Sim, but if your sister doesn't like the Beatles, she's the nutjob and feeble minded one.

Well, I'm sorry to say this, Sim, but if your sister doesn't like the Beatles, she's the nutjob and feeble minded one.
But the reality is, she's not. She's a mature woman, responsible job, 3 grown children, busy social life and runs a lot for charity.
The only thing she's crazy about is her kids and her cats!
She just doesn't care much for The Beatles. This isn't complicated, I know others that aren't crazy about them either.
No singular one thing will appeal to everyonethis is obvious and as I've said - even my 12 year old son gets this.
I believe you get it too in spite of yourself.
If however, you genuinely can't process the simple dynamic of this in your mind, then it is you who may have a mental impediment rather than others.

Well, first thing, just because she has her life together doesn't mean she can't also be a nutjob. A lot of nutjobs have they're life together. Look at Congress. Oh! Lol. And I get it. Nothing is for everyone. But, I think that's ridiculous.

It's not as ridiculous as you insisting every person on planet Earth should like a specific band, movie or TV show.
To think that way at your age is shockingly immature when there are children a third your age who understand that that's not the way the world works.

Well, but it's like, how can you not? How can you NOT like the Beatles? How can you NOT like Cheers, or Rocky, or Pizza or spaghetti, or whatever, 95% of people like? It just blows my mind. I'm not saying Rocky has to be your favorite movie, or Beatles your favorite band, etc, but at least like them, enjoy them. Realize they're place in history. Respect them. You feel me?

Well, but it's like, how can you not? How can you NOT like the Beatles? How can you NOT like Cheers, or Rocky, or Pizza or spaghetti, or whatever, 95% of people like? It just blows my mind.
It comes down to diversity in the end.
People see the world differently, are shaped by their upbringing, experiences and any number of factors that give them their own identity and perspective.
They end up with their own unique view of everything around them.
Sure, there are some things that will be considered great by the broader majority (perhaps even vastly so) of world thinking.
Elvis, Alfred Hitchcock, The Beatles, Beethoven, etc are all typical examples.
But there will still be significant numbers that don't share the majority view..this is inevitable.
You with HALLOWEEN II preferred to HALLOWEEN would fall into this minority group on that particular occasion.
And that is your privilege. I would never label you foolish in any way for that preference.
These people are entitled to their voice and their view. Comparing opinion is fine but criticizing them for it is unnecessary.
I'm not saying Rocky has to be your favorite movie, or Beatles your favorite band, etc, but at least like them, enjoy them. Realize they're place in history. Respect them. You feel me?
Well, people aren't obliged to like them if they simply don't like them.
No one can ask for that.
But I share your thought that certain artists/works should be respected and acknowledged for their historic impact.
I understand that you're passionate about the things you like..and that's not a bad thing.
But you have to retain a tolerance for others who differ.
I thought ROCKY was fine, entertaining and enjoyable. It didn't impact on me the way it did many others however.
But I can respect it's cultural significance, lasting power and achievement.
Russell Crowe is an actor I find hard to watch. His presence on-screen does nothing for me and generally I find his acting style unappealing.
But he is a top actor who has got where he is because he has worked hard and clearly must have talent.
So I respect that.
People will like and dislike through natural instinctwe may discuss, compare opinions and views - but they shouldn't be criticized for that.

I'm impressed you've said that and you can only try. None of us are perfect here or can hold their preferences above the next person.
I know I certainly can't.
But we all remain free to agree/differ on anything in a healthy manner by giving fair opinion with due respect.
And despite all our clashes, I still hold no grudges and it's never been personal - I think you know that.

No. You and Barney and I have had our differences, but there was always an underlining, I don't know, respect or something. Most people make it personal and that's when I put them on ignore. You guys have always at least kept it above board shall we say.
