Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — I Need To Know

Hello! I was hoping to find the name of a film I watched long ago.
An allied soldier is in an attack in France or Germany and he is made unconscious. When he wakes he appears to be back in England/USA. But in fact is in Germany, where they have a cunning plan to make him reveal some crucial information. He figures this out before the end of the film.
    Many thanks, Jon

Thanks for your reply, but that's not it. (Know ROTLA very well.)
The Germans have put on a sting to make the allied soldier feel like he was back in England/US, but in fact all the people around him are German actors pretending that the war has finished, so that there is no need for the allied soldier to keep his secrets.

The 36 Hrs plot has been extensively parodied in all the different incarnations of Star Trek, once in V the Series (1983), at least once in Stargate, and by others.
