In the book, only one unsuccessful Crawford pregnancy (and speculated to be an abortion rather than miscarriage) is mentioned, and that's with Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Were the "seven pregnancies" with Franchot Tone fabricated for the movie, or did it really happen?

Yeah, I've never been able to confirm "seven miscarriages" with Franchot Tone. I've heard about her infertility issues maybe due to a botched abortion. Literally "seven miscarriages" with Tone though? I think that was an embellishment. (The film had plenty of "dramatic license" issues. The most annoying to me was intentionally leaving out Crawford's two youngest adopted children.)
If anyone knows more about the origin of the miscarriage-claim, I'd be interested to know. I don't think there would be such a verification, but maybe the claim is out there beyond it mentioned in this film, and I just never found it.

My understanding is that Cindy Crawford had some abortions which other well known actresses did as well. They always covered it up by stating that they were sick or making some statement about an illness. We will not know exactly because it was a private issue but maybe look for strange occurences
Also the reason why they didnt use the twins is because they couldnt. They could have gotten sued by them. Btw theyre arent really twins. I dont think they are related to each other. Even if they included the twins, you wouldnt have seen them much especially since Christina was 8 when they were adopted and her mother sent her away to boarding school. Same for Chris and the twins. She sent them away at 8 and they only came on holidays. There was also time when Christina was 15/16 that she wasnt allowed to come home for years. The whole film isnt exactly accurate because they didnt reference the first Christopher who Cindy had to return or Cindy Crwafords brother. They also glossed over Cindy adoption and Gerogia Tann, the corrupt baby broker.

They are fraternal twins and yes they were related to each other. In 1998 while promoting her 20th Anniversary edition of MD Christina made statements about the two girls saying they weren't twins and that Cathy was just a girl who looked like Cythina. Cathy successfully sued Christina for defamation of character.

            Cindy Crawford?
I'm the clever one; you're the potato one.
