Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Mommie Dearest

I love how the photographer has to direct Christina in several different ways for those fake pictures. Then, he claims that she is a natural. Lol
By the looks of these recent posts, I gather a lot of folks are watching the Mommie Dearest marathon on IFC. : )

It's been trending on Twitter all day too. Even if it's not for the right reasons, this has left a very nice legacy for Joan Crawford and Faye Dunaway both.
Every time Miss Voodoo is asleep Shelly walks hard as beep and it wakes her up.

Nice legacy? I think Dunaway would disagree. She's spoken quite negatively about this film. Her legacy is much better for films like "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Network." If Joan had lived, she'd not consider "Mommie Dearest" good for her legacy either, lol. It's ironic Crawford hailed Dunaway for her acting, and Dunaway would go onto to play Crawford unfavorably in a cult classic. I really don't think "Mommie Dearest" hurts Crawford though; her real fans don't even make the connection between her long career and this "biopic."
I didn't know this is trending on Twitter today. I'll have to check it out. I'm actually watching "Mildred Pierce" at the moment, but I may tune into one viewing of "Mommie Dearest" today for laughs.

I mean with the younger audiences and audiences in the future. I haven't seen Bonnie and Clyde or Chinatown yet, but Network is one of my favorite movies, and I would still say Dunaway will be remembered more for Mommie Dearest. It's almost 40 years old and IFC is devoting an entire day to it, like A Christmas Story.
And younger generations will also be able to remember Joan Crawford's name, not for Mildred Pierce or anything like that, but simply as "That's the crazy woman that Mommie Dearest was about."
And yeah, I'm PISSED about Mildred Pierce. I've been wanting to see that forever and simply assumed that I didn't have TCM. Then I realize when there's only an hour left of the movie that I've had that channel all along! And All About Eve was on last night, so I didn't get to watch that either! Was TCM doing some sort of Divas lineup this weekend or something? I didn't see Baby Jane on the listings, which is the only logical movie to finish up with.

Yeah, you have a really good point there: "Mommie Dearest" allows younger audiences to even know who Crawford is. Whatever negative connotations come with Dunaways's portrayal, when "Mommie Dearest" is on a popular network, her name gets out there; it's making us talk about one of Hollywood's Golden Era stars, after all!
"Mildred Pierce" seemed to be rerun today as part of classic "mother movies" for Mother's Day. A few other classics were also on today. I also saw "All About Eve" was on TCM yesterday, but I missed most of it so didn't get to watch. I haven't seen it in years, so I was bummed! "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane" hasn't been on lately as far as I know. I last saw it on TCM in August 2015. August is always a fun month for TCM, as it'll devote each day of the month to a famous star of the past. It's common for one day of August to have a day for Bette of Joan. "Baby Jane" last August was for a Bette Davis day. I don't think there was one for Crawford last August, so I hope this year has a day for her.
I'm glad you discovered you have TCM! The station is still great at playing classic films. Sometimes, they do back-to-back films featuring a particular star or back-to-back themes. August is fun for their "Under the Stars" month, and February devotes all films to Oscar-nominated ones. Every month in between is pretty great too. In July, I usually try to see all the stars for each day in August, as well as the specific lineup of films so I can plan accordingly. 🙂

Wait! I just remembered last August had Joan Crawford day on TCM, nof Bette Davis. After "What Ever Happened go Baby Jane," "Trog " was played.

for me, it isn't the 'a little to the left' direction that gets me, it's the amount of times he says her name.
he says her name like 6 times!
                Oh God. Fortune
                vomits

Faye Dunaway portrayed Joan Crawford even better than the real Joan herself! Phenomenal.
