mmmm tough one.
Of course MBV is at a horrible disadvantage being a slasher film that (almost) no one has seen an uncut print of, but overall i think it is the better film.
The whodunnit plots in both films are very good but the sense of mystery in MBV is far more intruiging i think. You get a real feel of the community in that film and the characters relationships are a little more fleshed out.
Prowler is an absolutely fantastic as a gorey slasher though. Very mean sprited downbeat stuff. But it seems to take forever to get to the quite amazing kills. i'm sure MBV takes just as long but you don't notice as much because the build up and character interaction is really involving and surprisingly well written. okay its very cheesy but there is real human drama going on ther. meanwhile other than the deputy and the lead girl in Prowler all the characters are just waiting around to be killed.
Plus the flashback to the mining accident in MBV is genuinely disturbing and frightening in a way all of Prowlers outstanding special effects and gross outs never quite acheive.
All a matter of opinion of course. And mood: tomorrow i'll probably say Prowler but for now My Bloody Valentine gets my vote. -

I just recently watched both of these movies, and I would have to say The Prowler. I really like the idea of MBV better though. I think the idea of a killer stalking its victims in a mine is very creepy, but aside from that, I was bored through much of the movie. I just wasn't at all interested in the love story they were trying to force down our throats. The Prowler, on the other hand, was just a cheapy, gritty, low-budget slasher in the best sense. There wasn't a big story or anything, but that's fine. This film was more about the kills, and I thought Savini did a great job with them. I liked both, but I really enjoyed The Prowler.

Hmmm. Tough call, I've only seen MBV one time. I think I'd prefer Prowler because the murders are unique and gory. And Cindy Weintraub, the one in the pool, is rather hot. And, if this counts, the dvd audio commentary is very amusing.
But MBV might be more consistently entertaining. The stiff acting and bad dialogue in MBV is more laughable than the Prowler. And I say that with affection"I remember that. Those were terrible murders!". -

The Prowler for sure! (In Australia It's VHS title is "Rosemary's Killer" and its very hard to come by now a days no dvd release yet though) Although My Bloody Valentine was a decent film It was too heavily cut! I remember seeing The Prowler when I was young i was hiding behind a couch while others were watching it not knowing I was there, I always loved slasher films, After the shower scene I couldn't handle it anymore I remember been so scared! Anyway I caught up with the film recently and the gore is still up there with alot of todays standards and its still suspenceful! That last scene really got me too, you know that final scene where you think everything is ok and I dont scare easily! But that was heavily cut too so many death scenes seemed to be missing! Rosemary's death is there, the shower, her bf, the pool, and the teacher! but the other room mate just vanished half way through the film! we see her getting it on with her bf and the killer watching then it cuts! Don't even see there bodies turn up! I heard there are quite a few missing death scenes that are very full on! I thought the shower scene was full on enough, it still grosses me out! My folks saw it at the drive in when it came out uncut in its full glory. They told me some good stuff was cut from the video release some of the later deaths! Anyway I still thought it was suspecful and gory a favourite of mine! I only saw My Bloody Valentine recently and was let down by the gore and it only got suspecful once they were in the mine! I liked it was realistic in the fact that a few kids got away, but for the ones that died it was so disapointing that most of the deaths were cut! At least we saw the annoying brounette die at the end! It was too noticeably cut!

MBV by a long shot. I saw that one as a kid in the early 80's, but only just recently saw Prowler, and after reading so many raves about the Prowler over the years I was very disappointed. It was too slow and boring, and the deputy was the epitome of the idiotic bumbling sheriff, who for some reason kept using his girlfriend as his partner instead of calling for real help. Also the motive was left too unclear and while there were a couple of good gory scenes, even those disappointed me since there weren't that many deaths in the first place and only a couple looked at all impressive.

I like THE PROWLER more. Never was a huge fan of MY BLOODY VALENTINE, but I still haven't seen the uncut version.

My Bloody Valentine for me, I find it much more entertaining and has better re-watch value. The Prowler however wins in terms of the murder sequences as it did the near impossible and made gore scary, only other film to have pulled that off is High Tension.
