…and knowing that Shawn (Cruise) was a powder keg, it would have made more sense if Moreland (Hutton) and Dwyer (Penn) discussed with Shawn first before surrendering the Academy to the authorities.
Or even if Shawn still went psycho, "It's beautiful man!" , at least it would have been seen as a more level-headed decision to make before calling the cadets to stand down, especially considering their very precarious predicament was never going to succeed to begin with.
