Of course,it would be considered mediocre nowadays since it was released 30 years ago.People also have to consider the year a movie is released. People at present won't have the same appreciation for movies done in the past UNLESS it was a classic nor a legendary film. Besides,do people nowadays would still find Charlie Chaplin funny in his silent movies at present? Probably not as much as when those silent films were released during their times.
Going back to the remake,I still believe that Hollywood should leave it as it is.Just like two years ago,the military cadets who would do the uprising won't get the same sympathy as they did at present since anyone who does those things these days would be considered a terrorist especially after what the country has gone through druing 9/11.

I vividly remember back in 1980 when it was first released ow it was considered, at best, mediocre. It even received poor reviews by some critics.

True! Both positive and negative. I agree to the earlier comment that it should have no remake but my point that now is the time for a Taps remake or else a special 30th anniversary edition of the film should it would never have a remake.

I've watched this movie a hundred times and i love it( im an 18 yr old girl).
Last night i rewatched it and studied it like a hawk because im writing a paper over it, and there is no reason anyone should remake this movie.
Through the whole movie you believe that what their fighting for is felt deep in their hearts, you feel for their characters and their able to portray their inner turmoil so effectively that its amazing.
To try and find actors to play these parts without over acting, or coming off as just complete maniacs( except for Shawn) would be impossible.
Leave the movie as it is, but if the remake flops, it'll just make this one look even better.
There really aren't any more Audrey Hepburn's out there, are there?

Kristy, and gents, don't you think Taps would be a little unrealistic to set in the internet age? I don't think the Feds could propagandize itself out of the blame for storming a military school and killing American children. Think Waco with blue-eyed kids in place of religious crazies, and add youtube. Hell, Donald Trump would probably fork over the money to pay off the condo company, then hold a reality TV show there about bisexual young Marines to celebrate their newfound legalized out-ness. A story gotta be plausible at least.

This movie can't really be remade because they will never get a cast like this again. What are the odds of getting 3 teen leads that would go on to get 3 Oscars and 9 Oscar nom's between the three of them. Not to even mention George C Scott. That cast isn't something that you can just slap together on a whim, and there is no way to do justice to the movie without some damn good acting.

"Why does it need a remake ?"
                  +1
There is no real point in it but to try to cash in (like most remakes attempt to do. Most with no real tangible results).

This thread started in 2007. My post is 2015. No rumors, lies, etc. of remake being mentioned. At least I haven't seen any. May be a website dedicated to its remake. Who knows?
It would bs CGI if it happens. Actors would get a lot of harness time to swing around everywhere!

why not release it wide? gotta be cheaper than a remake, and prolly make as much on the returns. I never got this remake thing!
