Great story. I would have sworn that the cadet was an actor because he was so poised and confident.

All cadets in any military program, academy, ROTC, etc., are taught to be that way no matter what they are doing. Acting, obviously, is no exception.

My son is a cadet at Valley Forge. We were wondering if anyone knows if
they will film the re-make there? I think it would be great for the academy if they did.

What remake? It is not old enough to need a remake!

I knew a couple of guys who were students at Valley Forge Military Academy when the original 1981 movie was being filmed, and believe me, there is no way in hell that school would ever let another movie be filmed there again .. one of my ex- student friends said that the film makers told the school that they were filming a documentary, and the next thing anyone knew, they were blowing things up.. needless to say , the school was pretty pissed.. as a matter of fact, a couple of years later, the makers of " The Lords of Discipline" wanted to film that movie at Valley Forge and they were told to get lost.. so the simple answer to your question, would be no..
But I agree with you , I think it would be nice to have your son be a part of that experience..

did your dad know a teacher named mr. sicoli. no it's not a joke on "spicoli".
i had a social studies teacher in 9th grade 1990, who showed this movie and talked about being on the set.

Funny the reason I came here today is that this morning I found out that someone I'm acquainted with happened to be the actor who played Shovel.

Gregory Hines should've been in TAPS.

I was in high school nearby in Radnor when this movie was filmed! It was such a BIG deal. Anyone and everyone showed up for casting calls and scenes that called for hundreds of extras. It seemed like the biggest bragging right of 1980 was being in TAPS. LOL. I wasn't in TAPS 😞
