      I couldn't agree more. My friend pointed out a cool little bit of symbolism in that shot as well. This is the only time in the film we actually see Frank smoke. The first time he attempts to smoke in the diner but his lighter doesn't work. This time it does. Whether it was intentional or not it gives that turning point in the film a little extra boost. I love Michael Mann and Thief is one of his best.

        It is a cool movie. I was doing business in Chicago when I saw the film in the theater. I thought it was terrific, different, focused on characters who are often overlooked. Thought Caan and Weld were great.
