      for some reason i always felt the movie had more an "LA" theme to it rather than chicago.
      and yes michael mann does it the best.

        LA was I think symbolic for the diamond heist to go down there. Like it was the big time. This was all about a fairly local guy, doing some small time stuff, making a shot at the big time. So the movie needed that distance for Frank to reach for. He was a fish out of water. Adds to the tension.

          No one does either better than Mann? Can't argue with that.
          And yeah, even though this film is mostly set in Chicago, the whole thing gives me more of an LA vibe (Mann style, of course).
