    I agree it looks great, but I think Mann went a little too far with the blue tinting. Not that it didn't originally have that look, but I doubt it was
    this
    blue. Otherwise, it looks and sounds excellent.

      It's waaaaay too blue. Does not look at all natural. Yes, the MGM disc sometimes lacked clarity, but I much prefer that over the Criterion.

        I hate blue , teal movies but in this case it works because of all the night scenes.
        I'm sure the movie didn't look like this at the theater in 1981.
        Movie looks great.

              Hadn't seen it 'til tonight on Retromix TV and the quality of the picture is pretty good. Not HD, but good quality picture on widescreen.

                    That's excellent news! Thanks, Mountainjam. I can live with the fisherman scene at the beginning, as long as the other stuff has been restored as it was originally. I'll pick up a copy soon.
