i stopped watching around 2001 or so because i thought it wasnt as good anymore
i prefer watching it around the 90s when the storylines were really gripping and worth watching.

I used to watch it on and off, with my parents from 1989 onwards until 2003
I used to love the theme music for it, i had it as a ring tone when i was younger, i want it now and i can't find it anywhere on the internet
      The soaps vanished
      Like it never existed
And what a shame that was

Can't say as I did. I probably stopped around 2001. I used to love it around the late 90's. Even though some of the storylines were a bit fcked up, the dialogue was the best in any soap of the time and the characters at least seemed real even if some of the stories didn't. I did catch the final episode on 4OD the other year and it looked like it was getting good again like its 80's heyday. Too little too late by then though.

When Channel 4 started Big Brother in 2000 it kind of messed up the schedules for both Brookside and Tour de France. Brookside being shifted to 1 episode on Saturdays plus the continuing revamps was it's downfall.

Yeah because the controller of the time at C4 Michael Jackson wanted to get rid of it and so he (allegedly) messed around with the scheduling in an effort to get it axed. Typical case of unscrupulous TV exec not caring about what the viewers want and only thinking of themselves.

I stopped watching it in 2002 the year before it was axed.

I watched the entire series from start to finish. When I started watching it I must have been about nine, shortly after channel four was introduced. I remember the day I find out I was pregnant with my first child ( aged 22) I watched that very evening and up until it ended. I actually found it and entertaining and realistic show. I would watch it again if it returned to our screens and My daughter of sixteen. ( incidentally has down syndrome like the character Alice on the show) Well she loves Holly oaks, Also written by the same writing team

Watched like so many others with my family & even grand parents until the bitter end when the quality was really noticeably downgraded due to the lower budget & lack of support from Channel 4 in the end.
Channel 4 were & still are crazy to ignore this show it easily matched & often beat the other soaps of the day. So many topical & controversial but interesting storylines.
Channel 4 should at the very least either:
1: Re-run all episodes on More 4 or E4 several times a day for those at work to catch-up.
2: Release the entire series on DVD.
3: Consider a new series on a new Brookside close which could easily be created in a studio lot & look similar to the old close. So many topical stories they could/should tackle today.
Either release would easily pay for itself its staggering Channel4 or Phil Redmond have not done this already there is still a massive audience around for this show & it would grab many new viewers of all ages the advertisers would win if it were re-run on TV & the DVD's would sell strongly for years to come its such a shame no-one can legally see more than a handfull of episodes on DVD, Video or C4 On Demand website.
The person uploading to youtube does a great job but the quality is very poor on many episodes they are unwatchable on a modern HDTV.

The last episode I watched was the brother and sister incest story.
