          I loved it. Sam Malone stands apart from the many other womanising lead characters in comedy shows (Hank Moody in CALIFORNICATION, the ENTOURAGE boys, Charlie in TWO AND A HALF MEN etc), and indeed in most dramas as well because of many funny, but vulnerable, moments like that.
          It speaks to CHEERS greatness that the writers, aware they were making a sitcom about screw ups (however likeable), always found ways to undermine the idea of Sam as some flawless stud.
